Up Great Blue Herons on the Riverwalk - Easter Sunday, 2008 Prev Next Slideshow

Several small islands on this part of the river support tall trees (sycamores, I believe) that local birds have made ample use of. The lower branches are crowded with Cormorants, in the upper branches you can see a large number of Great Blue Heron nests. Most of these guys are too far away for me to shoot with my 70-300mm. I even tried from the other side of the river, but despite the way it looks in this photo, the islands are just as far from the opposite bank. About 90 degrees left of this photo is another island that is closer, which is where the photos that follow were taken.
