Heading into one of the ponds where the wood ducks hang out, I stuck my head up over a rise when the pond was still fifty yards off and saw a couple of them splashing around. While they were making noise I got got as close as I could behind the rise and crawled the rest of the way on my belly (keeping one eye on the ducks while the other eye cruised around for snakes and fire ants). By the time I got close, they were done with their baths and had gone back to a little spit of land where I thought they might be nesting. As it turned out, one of my bird books says that wood ducks prefer elevated spots (like hollow trees) for their nests, so maybe they were just foraging. They were very well hidden and too far for my lens, but I hoped the ducks or the egret (white arrow) would venture out after a while so I stayed put for nearly an hour. Eventually I figured I'd try to move to the right a bit and maybe get a better angle. That spooked the ducks and resulted in about six or eight blurry shots...
