In our back yard, we have been watching this cardinal grow up... it's been fun seeing him gradually get bigger and developing some color. Unfortunately, we have been seeing less and less of him and his parents, as well as other frequent visitors to our feeder (mostly chickadees, titmice and a few finches). It seems the dreaded English sparrows have discovered our feeder and have driven everything else away except a few larger birds (a couple of woodpeckers and a few doves). The smaller birds still show up and grab a seed or two, but their visits are hit and run because the sparrows keep the feeder surrounded. I've never been tempted to shoot birds before but the sparrows are really trying my patience. |
