Golden Silk spider, Nephila clavipes, also called a Banana spider. I almost literally ran into this one at Oxbow Meadows. She had built her web across a deer trail that I was following... I had ducked under a branch and as I straightened up I found her about four inches from my nose. From that distance she looked about the size of a Buick so needless to say I almost jumped out of my skin. When the adrenaline rush subsided, I unfolded my tripod and took a bunch of photos. This one was shot with available light and a small amount of flash fill. |
