Up 10 04 Owls Prev Next Slideshow

There are a few Barred Owls in our neighborhood, at least that what they sounded like from their calls... they have been hooting to each other over a four or five block area for many years now, they're great fun to listen to when I go out on the deck in the evening. They are loud but stay well-hidden... in all the years I've been hearing them I've never actually seen one. But a few nights ago, Beth called me out on the deck and there was one sitting in a tree. He stayed quietly perched on a branch while several small birds dive-bombed him. I ran for my camera, even tho the sun was already below the horizon, and grabbed a few pictures. It was so dark I had to crank the ISO all the way up to 3200 to get a shot, so that's why there is so much noise in the photo.
