Fortunately, we decided to drive out the day before the concert and camp out on the site. Even so, we started seeing bumper-to-bumper traffic about twenty miles from the race track. A lot of people just left their cars and walked. A few of the roads, like this one, remained fairly clear thanks to the local and state police who were used to dealing with annual crowds of 100,000+ for the Grand Prix.

For the most part though, it was a mixture of creeping cars and strolling pedestrians. When the cars did start moving, the walkers would all pile on the hoods and trunks and hitch a ride... when the line of cars stopped, they'd all hop off and start walking again. Neither group made good time tho... the only ones who got thru quickly were those on bicycles and motorcycles. It took us about two hours to cover the five miles from the center of town to the race track.
